Plantain is a perennial herb in the family Plantainaceae. It grows in mountains, roadsides, flower gardens, riversides, and other places. The rootstock is short and thick, with dense fibrous roots. The leaves are all rooted, the leaf blade is smooth, widely ovate, with undulating margins and inconspicuous obtuse teeth, five main veins, raised towards the back of the leaf, ribbed into the petiole, and the leaf blade is often as long as the petiole.
